The take-off of the real 5G with Fivecomm

The Valencian startup Fivecomm is taking advantage of the potential of 5G technology (the new standard in mobile telephony) to develop all types of robots for the 4.0 industry. Narcís Cardona, the company's driving force, realised the business opportunity during the organisation of the 5G world congress held last year in Valencia and founded Fivecomm in November with engineers José Monserrat and David Gómez Barquero. The company designs robots that communicate with each other, autonomous vehicles and devices for the broadcast of sports events that will prevent the movement of mobile units to the football fields thanks to 5G networks. GoHub Ventures, the startup investment arm of Global Omnium, has just invested 450,000 euros in the firm. The company, which is immersed in five European projects, plans to have a turnover of one million euros this year and its bet is the take-off of the real 5G.

The Global 5G Event new generation mobile phone networks congress put Valencia on the map and demonstrated the potential of telecommunications engineers linked to the Polytechnic University of Valencia (UPV) and the Institute of Telecommunications and Multimedia Applications (iTeam). At the congress, thanks to Cardona and his team, the first holographic videoconference in the world could be seen (an image that was transferred to the Star Wars films) and the first autonomous vehicle developed in Europe that moved with 5G technology. Narcís Cardona (Professor at the UPV and Director of iTeam) explains that at that moment they realised the opportunity they had before them. One of the four large mobile phone operators in Spain (whose name they cannot reveal due to a confidentiality clause) has acquired the vehicle that travels with 5G technology and is manufactured by the company based in Paterna Robotnik. "Nobody had done it before, at least in Europe. It's a vehicle that can be driven remotely via the mobile network. It has multiple functions because it allows us to monitor installations that are in dangerous areas without any risk to the operator," he says.
